Facial recognition cameras and face-search engines seem to be everywhere nowadays. Flock cameras tracking plate numbers of cars on the streets, cameras in stores, transit systems, and apartment lobbies. And now companies are letting anyone search a person and find information on them with just a photo. Once a face is in a face search system, it typically stays there indefinitely, and new images are added as they’re collected.
FacePrivacy, a biometric privacy company, recently announced the public launch of a service built to change that: requesting and managing removal of a person’s face in facial recognition and face-search databases, and continuing to monitor afterward in case a face is added again. Removed faces can and do reappear in these databases as they re-scan and update. FacePrivacy’s biometric removal process has achieved patent pending status in the US.
The Problem: Cameras, surveillance, and face search are all around us. And growing every day.
Millions of people are indexed in facial recognition systems, and more are added each day. They never consented, and never opted in. Privacy tools on the market today focus on standard data brokers like name, address, email, phone number. They don’t work on the face itself, or on other biometrics (which FacePrivacy will be rolling out soon). And even if you remove your face from a database, it can be added again later. Or a new database can pop up overnight.
What FacePrivacy does
FacePrivacy finds where your face shows up in facial recognition and face-search databases, submits removal requests, checks on the removal, and then continues monitoring the internet databases to catch and act on reappearances. Face removal as an ongoing state, not a one-time action. Ongoing monitoring and removal is the key, and FacePrivacy offers a brand new way to do that.
Patent-pending technology
FacePrivacy has achieved patent pending status with a provisional patent in the US, for its processes related to facial biometric security. The company says facial biometrics are only the first phase of the Biometric Security portfolio. The company has designed and will be implementing other biometric request removal for identifiers including eyes, fingerprint, voice, and gait, in a similar method as face.
How to get protection
New users can start protection now at faceprivacy.ai, with plans starting as low as $7.99 per month for ongoing monitoring and reporting.
